I was a relative latecomer to the world of flightsimming, starting with FS98. Since then I've got totally hooked and most of my hard disk space is devoted to FS2004 and numerous add-ons. I run a dual-monitor setup with one 17-inch CRT monitor and one 19-inch Flatscreen, and run FS2004 primarily off two 250Gb external drives. Concentrating on GA and military "warbirds" rather than flying the big jets, I have a "virtual hangar" that would need an airport the size of a small European country to display properly ! I am now on my second set of CH rudder pedals and flight yoke. Much of my free time is spent online providing support at various flightsim forums and in recent years I've acted as a Beta tester for Dreamfleet, Flight1, RealityXP and associated payware companies, such as Scenery Solutions who produce the Ultimate Terrain series of add-ons.
Away from computer, I am an active member of St John Ambulance, the leading emergency first aid registered charity in the UK, staffed by professional volunteers from all walks of life. ( www.sja.org.uk/sja/ ) For over 20 years I've attended public events both locally and in central London - anything from local school fetes to the annual London Marathon and major events in Hyde Park. I'm regularly in attendance in London's West End "Theatreland" and have provided emergency support further afield "airside"at the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford. On July 7th 2005 I was one of those called out to help in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on London transport, and I'm potentially "on call" 24/7 for major emergencies.
At work I wear a number of "hats", carrying out scientific testing in my company's laboratories, acting as Health & Safety Officer and providing on-site IT support for the company and my colleagues, some 22 miles away in St. Albans. |
